What is a broadband internet speed test? It is a way for you to test the quality and speed of your broadband internet connection.
When you click start the speedtest.net application will test your DSL, Cable, or T1 connection speed and latency between your PC and our server.
The speed test tool we provide is used as a base assessment to determine internet quality, if there are connection issues, as well as whether or not VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) will be of sufficient quality to operate on your broadband connection.
Download Speed
The speed at which data is transmitted from the Internet to your computer over your broadband internet connection.
Upload Speed
The speed at which data is transmitted from your computer to the Internet over your broadband internet connection.
Ping (Latency)
The time it takes in milliseconds for a small piece of data to be transmitted from your computer to the Internet and back. A high latency (150 ms+) is typically a sign of an issues between your modem and the route to the destination your information is being transmitted to. High Latency is the equivalent of a traffic jam on a highway.
